Religion of Pieces (II)

Today’s editorial in the Washington Post condemns the Southern Baptists for their pesky truth-telling, and admonishes President Bush for not being a stronger advocate of “...championing the values of tolerance and freedom that are essential to winning this war.”

The editorial’s central point appears to be captured by this: “...anti-Americanism and opposition to democracy should not be seen as inherent to Islam.”

Well, folks, sorry to shock y’all, but here’s some more truth. First, what is essential to winning this war is superior intelligence, firepower, and the will to employ them. Second, the evidence from around the globe is that the overwhelming majority of Muslims (well over 70%) despise the West generally and the United States in particular. Not only that, there are no Arab democracies out of 21 states, and only one major Islamic state (Turkey) that approaches even Eastern European norms for democracy and freedom. And Turkey shook off its Islamist roots over 80 years ago, and is still no further along the path to freedom than Bulgaria, only 10 years freed from the gulag of Soviet domination.

The truth will set you free, but only if you heed its voice.
