Scott Ritter on the Iraqi Threat

When someone is profiled in the Style section of the Wasington Post, it is a sure sign that either the person or his work is not considered as serious. In today's Style section, Scott Ritter is profiled, and, since the work discussed is the Iraqi threat (or lack thereof), which is decidedly serious, draw your own conclusions.

Let Ritter speak for himself:

1998, to the U.S. Congress: "Iraq is not disarmed. Iraq still poses a real and meaningful threat to its neighbors."

2002, to the Iraqi National Assembly: "The truth of the matter is that Iraq has not been shown to possess weapons of mass destruction".

The truth, as they say, is out there. Scott Ritter certainly seems to be. In the four years of no inspections, his followup to what he saw as a "real and meaningful threat" is that there is no threat based on WMD. And his basis for the 180 degree change is...you'll have to fill in the blank, since it clearly was not onsite inspections. Perhaps Saddam just has an honest face, and, he wouldn't lie to us, now, would he?

Let's not waste any more time on Mr. Ritter. He is properly placed on the Style page, as part of our entertainment quotient for the day.
