According to the online Times of London,
"...a Palestinian declaration containing an unconditional commitment to end suicide attacks on civilians was finalised hours before the attack. It was to have been made public yesterday but has now been postponed indefinitely".
The target of the attack was a Hamas military leader who chose to live surrounded by civilians, as do most of these cowards. Hamas does not recognize Israel's right to exist, so how much credibility does any document have that says, from now on, we will not commit acts of terror against certain categories of Israeli civilians? What sane person would believe this, since from its founding these berks have been committing atrocities on innocent civilians. Indeed, as Hamas has yet to recognise Israel's right to exist and they are committed to its extinction, what precisely would lend us to believe in this document?
Answer: nothing. The diplomaniacs at the United Nations or in the EU bureaucracy may believe that Hamas, along with Fatah and the other terrorist groups that make up the Palestinian thugocracy would at least stop committing war crimes, iincluding but not limited to suicide bombings of civilians. The Israelis can not afford to let such fairy tales stop them from killing known Hamas leaders when the opportunity arises. If Hamas cared about its own civilians, which it apparently does not, then perhaps they would not situate their leaders among noncombatants.
Anyone who believes that this purported halt to suicide attacks against certain Israelis (but note, not all) is real has simply not been paying close attention to what the Palestinians have done (and not done) over the past 21 months. They were offered a state brokered by the best friend that the Palestinians were ever likely to find in the White House, Bill Clinton. They turned it down, because it left the state of Israel still standing, and started their intifada terrorism.
The killing of a Hamas leader is comparable to the killing of an Al Qaeda operative. The US and UK should applaud, with appropriate statements of regret that the cowardly Hamas killer surrounded himself with civilians. In an objective court of law, it would be Hamas on trial for the killing of innocents under the concept of "reckless endangerment" -- it was they who put the women and children in harm's way.
But, the U.S. state department once again errs on the side of terror, and convinces the Bush team in the White House to publicly chastize the Israelis. Mr. Bush's state department, if it is in fact his, once again tarnishes the noble start that the President made against global terrorism.
