Not enough money in the world
The Saudis are, according to this story, spending millions to improve their "image" among Americans. Image, as the pundits sometimes say, is everything. In the Saudis' case, it would have to be everything, as the realities of their sad but wealthy sandbox nation are both pitiful and sickening.
Victor Davis Hanson lays all of this out with superb clarity in the July-August 2002 issue of Commentary (article online here). The title is, appropriately enough, "Our Enemies, the Saudis." Read it and weep for the blinders that our country has had on, driven by a lust for cheap oil.
Without oil, the Saudis would be just a band of thuggish desert-dwellers; now they are wealthy thuggish desert-dwellers who pose as moderns.
