It's OK to Profile
Who would've thunk that Arabs on a plane would make other passengers nervous? Well, gosh, they did for some reason, and (horrors) the allegation is that some US airlines have (gasp!) discriminated (oh, the humanity...) against our peace-loving Arab brethren. So, this particular Arab is doing what any red-blooded Amurrican would do: sue the bastards.
The story is on the front page of the June 5, 2002 Washington Post and may be found here. The Arab dude in the picture looks like he's in some serious need of Gas-X to relieve that bloated, I'm full up to my eyeballs with righteous indignation feeling.
Where in the blazing hell were these peace-loving Arabs and Muslims now taking on the mantle of victimhood when it came to taking action to cleanse their societies of the trash that commits outrages like 9-11? But, oh, nooo...they're more concerned that somehow we might blame them for atrocities committed, pretty much 100%, by Arab Muslims.
The funniest rebuttal made by a "civil libertarian" (more on the ironic quote marks below) to profiling of Arab-looking men at airports is that, "well, Richard Reid, the shoe-bomber, isn't Arab..." Proving exactly what? That not 100% of terrorists are Arab. We knew that. But close enough, as they say, for government work. 100% of the 9-11 hijackers were Arab men; close to 100% (say 85-90%; the remainder being a motley assortment of Muslim malcontents) of the al qaeda fighters are Arab men. So, if you were going to get nervous about a fellow passenger on an airliner, it likely would not be elderly Irish nuns, waspy-business men, military men and women in uniform, Swedish farmers from Minnesota, etc. etc., world without end.
Now, "civil libertarians", at least of the ilk who leap forward at the slightest perceived insult to "minorities", are quite willing to let thousands of innocents die in order that one favored minority may have his rights defended. Bollocks. We innocents have civil rights, too -- first among them, the right to life. Second among them, the right to liberty, which must include the freedom from fear of being hijacked by some Arab. Sorry we've insulted you, old bean...just stay off of my plane.
Finally, to all of those who are insulted by being grouped in with a bunch of terrorists: Would you like some cheese with your whine? Stop mewling like sick kittens, Arab and Muslim people...let's link arms together, Arab, Jew, Christian, and start building something. Kick your thugs out; embrace freedom, free markets, and modernity; emancipate your women (and your chattel slaves, Sudan and Saudi Arabia); hold real elections. Then we won't profile you.
